House Visits: hope in poverty

This last week we have been staying in a very low/if any income area called Argelia Alta. On Wednesday, we did 2 house visits with a lady, Carlota who teaches the mothers and works with the kids. These families are supported by Compassion International.  We left the houses that afternoon completely devastated and disappointed.  It was overwhelming to witness the poverty and conditions they were in.  However, one family was very receptive to the Gospel and eager to pursue the Lord.  But another family seemed to have a very hardened heart. The family seemed so caught up in their own disputes that they couldn't believe God could be in control.
We are constantly thrown in the waves of this world.  Worrying and striving to meet cultural norms or having the best looking life we can make. But what happens when you die? All of those things you possesed don't mean anything anymore. Memories are what is left. But having an eternal mindset prepares you for what is to come. We have this parameter of not focusing on the here and now but also not focusing on eternity. To me, it seems like we are lost in a hope that can't be attained.
Surrender comes to mind when thinking of the near future. It's hard, but a peace surpasses over when we surrender our hope and our dreams to God. As we strive to have a mind like Christ, our hopes and dreams become His and what we do prepares us for eternity. Why waste our lives thinking of what could be or what should be? We have an incredibly powerful God; so why not  surrender our life to Him.
We can believe in the power of prayer and that God can soften their hearts to see God's everlasting love and that those disputes can be mended through  the touch of God's hand and having an eternal mindset.

Estefania is one of the 3 sisters who is 16 with 2 kids. Total, the family has 7 kids.
