Expectations can cause trouble in any area of our lives. Anytime there is a mutual dependency, expectations exist. And if those expectations are not met, conflict can be the result. Many times expectation arises from what we're used to, our family culture, and our own personalities.
But I've learned this past week that in all cultures, we have expectations of people. And sometimes it's hurtful when our culture is different and we can't help thinking the way that we do.
Three things that I've learned to be affective when you are holding expectations or you are let down by your expectations.
1. Communicate
Talk about how you feel let down.
2. Forgive
Forgive and learn from each other!
3. Love
Love goes a long way after a misunderstanding or a let down of expectations.
"Yes, my soul, find rest in God; my hope comes from him" (Psalm 62:5).
I'm learning to let go of unnecessary expectations that have prevented me from adjusting to this culture. It is a process to do this. But when we do this, we can experience the fullness of God's grace and the opportunities that we are blessed by.
So, last week was my birthday! Quick shout out to all those who wished me happy birthday! Thank youuu, and I love you all!! My birthday week was filled with baking and eating deserts (Scotcheroos, brownies, cupcakes, ice-cream)!
