Love Not Contained

We didn't slow down the last few days we were in Ecuador. We took a trolley, a bus, a taxi, and a pick up truck to get to our destination that was 2 hours away in the south of Quito. We visited a church family, did a bible study, communed with a family and visited an old lady.  It was a wonderful time to see the progress of this growing church, but in particular the lady we visited touched us the most.
A few members from a team I hosted last year painted her house. I had visited her once more before I left. She had touched my heart with her faith, so I made it intentional to see her. Nobody knew where she lived except me, but my idea of knowing where she lived consisted of a dirt road and a turn to the left. We drove around town asking people where she lived and 30 minutes later, we found her.  I ran out of the truck to give her a hug and the biggest smile came across her face.  The group came inside her house with groceries we had bought her, and there, she expressed her thankfulness to the Lord.  She told us that her family left her and that her faith was running dry. She explained that our presence made her realize that she is loved and not forgotten.

This lady, mi abuelita is a visible example of what being alone looks like.  But I think more often than not, we feel just as alone as she does. We treat love as if it has a weight limit, but love should overflow. Mi abuelita was a reminder to not keep in love.  Everyone desires to be loved, and the greatest example of love is our Father.  We treat love as if it is to be earned, but Jesus gave love freely.
"It is better to give than to receive"
I think when we love, God rewards us in our humble actions. We didn't have to drive 2 hours to see this woman, and we could've given up right away since no one knew how to get there.  But we pursued this love and God blessed her.
